My team and I created a picnic blanket for the Hema Design Contest under the theme, "The Future of Celebration". This blanket solves all issues of a traditional picnic blanket: no more wasted space, backs facing each other, or uncomfortable seating. This blanket can be torn apart and rearranged to meet the needs of every group and situation. It also creates a social situation in which people work together the arrange and rearrange pieces as the needs of the gathering change.
The blanket also contains a waterproof layer so damp grass will not lead to wet clothing. Pieces can be washed together or individually (ideal for spills). A carrying strap is included, made from scrap fabric.
